Compost Sak For Performance Composting

The Smart Pot Compost Sak is a large fabric bag that is lightweight yet extremely durable and lasts for years. This rugged fabric is entirely porous, containing many micropores that allow for contact air circulation and drainage. The fitted cover is a flexible plastic top designed to increase heat and help manage moisture in the mix, thereby accelerating the composting process.

How to Use

Open the Sak, set it on level ground, and start adding your compostable materials. Next, place the cover over the Sak. That’s all there is to it.

The key to successful composting is to have a mix of materials that isn’t too wet or too dry – just moist with enough oxygen to support microscopic life along with insects and earthworms. Too wet, and it becomes a soggy mess, too dry, and nothing happens. Composting is all about providing an environment for microbes. These critters, fungi and bacteria, and others inhabit the compost pile and feed on the organic material, breaking it down into pure compost.

The Compost Sak permeate fabric allows plenty of oxygen, while the fitted cover helps with moisture and temperature control. To speed up the process, turn the pile every week, bringing in more oxygen. If the Compost Sak starts to lean as more compostables are added, simply turn the mix and redistribute the compost inside the Sak.

Brown and Green – The Perfect Mix

Green materials such as grass clippings, vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, and other kitchen scraps provide nitrogen. Brown materials such as dead leaves, straw, shredded paper, dryer lint, etc., provide carbon. Together they create the perfect environment for the microbes in your compost. For the ideal mix, try an approximate ratio of two parts brown to one part green.
