NURSERY ROOTS. GROWER KNOW-HOW.

Our story began with trees.

At his tree farm in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Ralph Reiger developed the first Root Control Bags in 1980 with help from Oklahoma State University. He founded Root Control, Inc. in 1984—the roots of today’s High Caliper Growing, the company behind Smart Pot.

Yes—Smart Pots can be used for organic gardening. We make our fabric growing containers in the United States using virgin fabric. Independent testing by Consumer Testing Laboratories found no lead or BPA, as documented in our safety data sheet.

Our roots are in tree farming: founder Ralph Reiger developed the original Root Control Bag at his Oklahoma tree farm in 1980, laying the groundwork for Smart Pot.

Choose a suitable surface with drainage and enough light for your plants. Allow access for watering and harvesting. Protect moisture-sensitive surfaces, and account for the weight of wet potting mix before placing a large container on a deck or balcony.

Check the potting mix rather than watering on a fixed schedule. Plant size, weather, container size, and mix all affect how quickly moisture changes. Water thoroughly when needed and allow excess water to drain.

Empty the container, remove loose soil and roots, and gently clean when needed. Air-dry thoroughly before storage, and inspect the fabric and seams before reusing. Do not put it in a dryer.
